About Tom Lindsay

Tom Lindsay playing a Steinway Grand Piano

First found bashing piano keys at the age of three, Tom’s love of jazz piano has developed over more than twenty years. He spent 2008-10 studying jazz at Birmingham Conservatoire, developing his trade with the likes of Liam Noble and Hans Koller, and is now working on a number of projects.

Performing since the age of 16, Tom has developed a great experience and love for the music, and his enjoyment and raw enthusiasm cannot help but show at every opportunity. He has played at a range of venues all round the UK and Europe, including one performance on the same bill as jazz pianist and Mercury Prize nominee Kit Downes.

Pianists such as Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans are strong influences in Tom’s music, and he is a big fan of Cannonball Adderley and, from more recent times, Avishai Cohen and Brad Mehldau.

Tom’s jazz career has been heavily influenced by his time with the University of Warwick Big Band, with whom he was a musical director until very recently. The highlights of his association with the band include playing and singing in the Montreux Jazz Festival, picking up the Best Band Award at Bologna’s Alma Jazz Festival, and leading the band to Gold and Platinum Awards at the National Concert Band Festival as their Musical Director.

Alongside his vocal exploits with the University of Warwick Big Band, Tom has sung with the acclaimed State 51 Swing Orchestra as well as with his own groups. He is also a saxophonist, drummer, bass guitarist and teacher of jazz piano and saxophone, teaching amongst others a number of students at The University of Warwick.
