Looking forward to seeing some great gigs over the next month or so - highlights are Tower of Power and Snarky Puppy. Check both groups out if you've not heard of them, awesomely funky, in different ways.

Jan/Feb 2012

Teaching has really taken over my time the last couple of months! If you're interested in jazz piano or saxophone lessons in the Midlands, drop me a line at teaching@tomlindsaymusic.com.

I am still writing for a groove-based, funky, horn-driven group, and I'm getting there slowly. It's really bizarre spending three days a week teaching rules and applications of 'functional harmony', then the rest of the time desperately trying to restrain myself from using those very same rules in original material...

December 2011

After some great fun with The Groovitive at Warwick Students' Union a few days ago, I'm generally winding down for Christmas. I'm very much looking forward to starting a new job teaching jazz piano in a secondary school in Warwickshire in January - spreading the joy to the next generation!

I've mixed up a sample of the recordings I did with the The Callum Roxburgh Orchestra a couple of months ago - check out the projects page to listen. No piano (which I do usually play with them) but it is me on the vocals.

November 2011

Very busy over the last month! Quite apart from settling into a new house (it's getting there...), I'm very pleased with the new photos and recordings for my party band The Groovitive. We're excited to be playing alongside Warwick Uni Big Band at Warwick Students' Union in December.

Taking on more and more pupils as a jazz piano teacher (in the Midlands area where I'm based) - do get in touch if you're interested.

Otherwise it's more practice and more writing from now until Christmas - hoping to have a good programme of material ready to run some public gigs in the new year. Look out for those!

October 2011

If you've been here before, you might notice that it's now Tom Lindsay Music rather than Tom Lindsay Jazz. I've changed it to reflect the fact that what I do encompasses plenty more than just jazz music, particularly the way the word jazz is widely understood.

The changes are mostly cosmetic, though I've also added a few samples to the Live Music for Events page, with more to come in the next few weeks.

I'm also still waiting on those recordings I did with Funktional and The Callum Roxburgh Orchestra so I can add them to the projects page. Sometimes these things take a while...

August 2011

The last few months have seen plenty of gigs (mainly non-public function events, otherwise I'd have publicised them here!), and a lot of time spent writing new material.

It's been a slow process, but I've got some new tunes in the bank ready to rehearse, record and gig, as well as a lot of quarter or half-finished ones.

As well as all that, the last couple of months have seen me recording with Funktional and The Callum Roxburgh Orchestra. When the respective sound engineers for those groups have done their mixing and mastering wizardry, you'll be able to hear the tracks on the projects page.

April 2011

I'm planning to spend the next couple of months writing more original material and new arrangements for my trio (which might grow by a few members). All the details will go up here as they happen, but if history has taught me anything it's that writing original material takes me a while...

Live at Back Room Jazz

George IV Pub, Lichfield

The first outing of my brand new trio, live at the Back Room Jazz Club at the George IV Pub in Lichfield. I'll be on piano and vocals, with fellow Birmingham Conservatoire musicians Dan Casimir and Ric Yarborough on bass and drums respectively.

We'll be playing my arrangements of all sorts of tunes, from jazz standards, some less well-known material, and even some arrangements of tunes you probably won't be expecting...

Featuring support from The Tom Baxter Band.
